Gapaholics Anonymous Update

Okay, this is PROBABLY because I should be writing a major research paper and not because I am addicted to the GAP, but I just went online. It was only for a second. It didn't mean anything. I didn't even buy anything! I guess if I post this I will be more accountable for my problem:).

Thanks for all those who supported me in my break-through. I can see why people call the GAP the "gateway" drug to more potent and mind altering ones like Banana. Thankfully, I am only using GAP recreationally at this point. Oh how I struggle....

Maybe the trick is to kind of wean yourself off. Maybe Old Navy online? Maybe that's kind of like the nicorette gum of Gap addictions?

I struggle with Anthropologie. I think I check the "Sale Tops" section at least once a day. I'm up for that mall self help group any day!

Love you, funny girl.

Gapaholics Anonymous (G.A.)

For those of you who know I like to shop, this will come as no surprise to you. Others might be a smidgen shocked. What I am about to tell you is a major break-through in my life, as they say admitting the problem is the first step. Having said that, here goes:

Jessica: Hi, my name is Jessica.

Group: Hi Jessica.

Jessica: I am a Gap-aholic. It has been 2 weeks since I was the store and 21.5 hours since I looked on line.

Group: Admitting your problem is the first step: way to go!

Is there some sort of rehab for this tragic character flaw???

Hey, it's probably cheaper (less destructive) than being an N.A. (Nordstrom... not narcotics, people.)

Good to see you online! Wish I could see you (or even talk to you) in person!

Anderson is totally dancing to your play list. :)

I'm Kelly and I'm also a recovering G.A. For me, it started in high school. All the other girls were wearing cute sweater sets from Gap. I thought, what's the harm? Soon I was hooked. I just couldn't stay out of there. Before I knew it, I was stealing Gap items out of my sister's closet. It wasn't pretty.

Still, years later, I struggle. Except now Gap Kids is the siren song I must avoid. Stay strong and remember to lean on those who love you during this difficult time.

I just wanted to add that Gap is a gateway addiction. Soon you'll be in Banana Republic justifying a $90 top. I went down that road, Jessica. And it wasn't pretty. I'm eight months clean there (only because my pregnancy forced me to stop). But I just looked online. I'm so weak!

Ode to Snow Days???

Well, Spring is officially here in Wyoming. While other states enjoy the warmer yet not yet hot days of Spring, Wyomingites enjoy the ever changing weather that Spring brings. One day it can be so warm you are sporting flip-flops and driving with the windows down and the next day you can bundle up and try not to freeze to death as you shovel yourself out of your driveway. Such is the case this last weekend. Last week and into the weekend was perfectly beautiful. Then, the storm came. Monday was freezing. I reluctantly wrapped myself in warm clothes and stumbled out of my house to make the 40 minute trek to my job. The roads were treacherous. I was uber stressed as I cautiously took my time to reach my destination. Instead of 40 minutes, it took me around an hour. Luckily, I have planning period first hour, which is a nice built in buffer if I happen to be running late. I pulled up to the parking lot, and...it was empty. Was this an early April Fool's Day joke? Was I so exhausted my eyes were playing tricks on me? Could it possibly be that school was canceled and someone FORGOT to call me? I mean, WHO would do that? I slowly turned back onto the highway to return to my sweet bed hours after having earlier abandoned it. While my second snow day was sweet, it was just a little less so after having almost frozen to death in my quest to mold young childrens' minds. Oh well, at least I took a nap and did some laundry...

And I thought the Utah weather was being crazy! Holy Cow!

You switched from Diet Coke to Diet Pepsi? When did this happen? Thank goodness I get to see you next week and have an in depth (in person!) discussion about this!

Hey Jessica,
This is Maggie (Shepard) Fechner from Cody. I found your blog because I've been trying to find if any of the ol' Cody people have blogs. My family has one too and I'd love to invite you to it, but it's private so if you just post your email address in one of your own comments I'll invite you and you can see what's up with my fam too.

Ode to Snow Days...

The phone rang at 6:15 in the morning. (AKA the butt-crack of dawn). In my comatose state, I only managed to pick up the phone as my father (one of the perks of living at home--a live answering service) was finishing the conversation. All I heard was, "tell her school is canceled for today". I instantly picked up my cell phone and called the land line. LAY-ZEE, I know. It was 6:15 after all, so cut me some slack. My dad responded to my inquiry as to WHICH school was canceled, as my mom works for another school district. I was positive it was her rural school as opposed to mine. I was mistaken, it was MY adorable school (here and here) that was closed for the day! I was positive my HUH-LARIOUS dad was pulling my leg, so I ran upstairs like a little girl on Christmas morning. Annoyed with my hopeful and chipper disposition, he scolded me to get back to bed since I truly did not have to go to school. Ironically, I was so awake after I found out I actually COULD sleep in. After eating breakfast and doing some homework, I crawled back into my lovely and happy place and took a nap while the snow slowly and gently fell on the Wyoming ground. Sometimes nature just makes us take a break. Life is good. Snow days are wonderful.

What's cooler?

What's cooler than spending time with one of your favorite people?
Than seeing cool things in nature?
Than seeing Old Faithful?

Than jamming to great tunes on a road trip? Then smelling the sulfur in the hot pots?

Then seeing your name in Teton National Park?

Than seeing a REAL LIVE BEAR?
Spending time with Colette!

So, Catherine (my cousin disguised as my right hand woman and pseudo sister) and I decided to take a road trip through Yellowstone Park this June. We were having a great time. We had all intentions of returning the same day, but got this crazy idea to "pop" over to Pocatello (about 7 hours away) and surprise our aunt Colette. We didn't have ANYTHING with us, but we thought to ourselves, "Why not? A little spontaneity never hurt anybody!" We surprised her and had a fantastic time. We didn't want to come home! Thank heavens for great aunts that make driving 7 hours seem like a small price to pay in order to be in her company:Blogger

Holy Smokes, that bear picture scares me! I'm glad you survived.

And once again, I'm loving those sunglasses. Where did you get them?
